Transfer Credit Evaluation
Whether you are a student transferring admission from another college to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø or a current 51³Ô¹ÏÍø who has taken classes at another college, you need to have those classes evaluated by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø to determine if, and how many, credits will count towards your 51³Ô¹ÏÍø graduation.

Requesting Undergraduate Transfer Evaluation
Please have your official transcript sent to the Admission's Office (Admissions@njit.edu). After your transcripts are processed go to . Please allow a minimum of 10 working days for processing since the request must be reviewed by the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø department that offers the equivalent course.
Transfer Credit
Undergraduate transfer credit may be awarded at the time of admission for courses that are equivalent to those offered by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. These are based on transfer articulation agreements among the nineteen community colleges and NJ senior colleges and universities. The transfer articulations between 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and NJ community colleges can be found at our Comprehensive State-Wide Transfer Agreement page. Information on how to transfer prior coursework to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø can be found at: /admissions/how-credits-transfer. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø does not have a specific credit limit for the number of credits that may be accepted for transfer. However, to be eligible for graduation, undergraduate students transferring into 51³Ô¹ÏÍø must complete at least 33 credits in upper division courses approved by the department of their major study. A minimum grade of C must be earned in the course in order to receive transfer credit. All transfer credit must be documented by an official transcript issued by the school where the course was completed. Students who have attended foreign institutions of higher education must also submit an evaluation of their work made by World Educational Services Inc. or another approved service. Students are required to submit course descriptions for all course work taken outside of the United Stated to the Registrar's Office. Further information regarding evaluations may be obtained from the Registrar's Office. Graduate students may transfer a maximum of nine credits, limited to coursework completed at a US or Canadian Institution.

For veterans and active-duty military personnel transferring into 51³Ô¹ÏÍø as undergraduate students, an evaluation of the Joint Service Transcript (JST) is conducted by the respective academic departments to determine if, or how many, credits from the student’s military career are transferable to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. Graduate students may transfer a maximum of nine credits, limited to coursework completed at a US or Canadian Institution.
Transfer Credit from New Jersey Community colleges
Students who transfer to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø from any New Jersey county college should review the Comprehensive State-Wide Transfer Agreement for guidelines concerning transferability of credits from New Jersey public community colleges to NJ public four-year institutions.
Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB)
51³Ô¹ÏÍø accepts credit for AP exams and IB higher level (HL) coursework. Details on the scores needed and transfer equivalencies can be found at /admissions/apply-online.

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
- ENGLISH 101/102
- Students may complete equivalents of ENGL 101 and/or ENGL 102 at other colleges or universities during the summer session only if the course(s) is (are) not concurrently offered at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. The duration of the summer course at the other institution must be eight weeks or more and the modality of the course cannot be online. Advanced approval from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is mandatory.
- Winter Session: Students are not permitted to enroll in corresponding versions of ENGL 101 or ENGL 102 at other colleges or universities during the winter session.

- If 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is offering any of the above courses, we will not permit students to take the course at another institution.

- This course must be completed at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø as it is an 51³Ô¹ÏÍø specific course.

Department of Mathematical Sciences
- Calculus I and II (equivalents of Calculus I, Calculus II, Finite Mathematics and Calculus I ) may be taken in the summer at other colleges/universities where the duration of the summer course is eight (8) weeks or more.
- POLICY:
- For an 51³Ô¹ÏÍø student to receive credit for courses taken at other institutions during the summer, they must follow the procedures and comply with the policies found in the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø catalog: . In particular the student must obtain approval from the DMS transfer credit advisor. Please note that approval is contingent on the following: NO APPROVALS WILL BE ISSUED FOR ONLINE / DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES.
- Student must obtain a signed Approval for Undergraduate Courses at Other Colleges form.
- Student must submit signed form to the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Registrar's Office.
- If students do not have a signed approval form prior to taking a course at another college, the course will not transfer, even if it is successfully completed.
- Courses taken at other colleges must be at least eight weeks in duration.
- STUDENTS TAKING A PREREQUISITE COURSE AT ANOTHER COLLEGE: Students who wish to take a class at a different college that is a prerequisite for another 51³Ô¹ÏÍø math course may obtain a prerequisite permit only AFTER they have completed the prerequisite course and have earned a grade of C or higher. Detailed instructions about how to obtain a prerequisite permit are located on the form.
Department of Physics
- Physics I and II (equivalents of Physics I and Physics II) may be taken in the summer at other colleges/universities where the duration of the summer courses is six (6) weeks or more.
Computer Science
- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of a CS course outside 51³Ô¹ÏÍø only in rare situations. For example, when it is the last course required for graduation and it is not currently offered at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.
- The only Community College courses allowed are those listed as equivalent in
- Either the CS Associate Chair or the CS Chair have to approve the course equivalency before taking the course.
Information Systems
- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of a IS course outside 51³Ô¹ÏÍø only if the course is not offered at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø during that semester
- Students are only permitted to take 100 and 200 level courses at another institution.
51³Ô¹ÏÍø has launched a Reverse Transfer Agreement program, whereby it may be possible to receive your associate’s degree based on the combined coursework at your community college and additional credits that you completed while attending 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.
In order to participate in the reverse transfer process, an eligible student must meet the following criteria:
A. Students must have met the residency requirement and designated minimum grade point average at the Community College prior to enrollment at the Four-Year Institution.
B. Students must have applied and been admitted to the Four-Year Institution.
C. Following enrollment at the Four-Year Institution, students must have earned a cumulative total of 66 semester hours between the Community College and the Four-Year Institution.
D. Students must be current with financial obligations to both the Four-Year Institution and the Community College.
E. Students must have met all of the graduation requirements of the Community College.
Students are eligible to submit information to the program twice a year, once in January and again in June.
If you are interested in participating in this initiative, please complete the following providing information on the community college you attended, authorizing the University to initiate the Reverse Transfer process, and requesting that 51³Ô¹ÏÍø submit your university academic transcript to the community college you have requested this information to be submitted. Additionally, the Office of the Registrar will contact potentially eligible students beginning in November for the January data submission, and in April for the June data submission.
Submission of this data will be considered an electronic signature authorizing both the reverse transfer process and the release of your academic transcript to your prior community college.
Upon confirming your enrollment status and that you are current in your financial obligations, the University will transmit your academic transcript to the Community College you requested, along with a notation that you intend to seek a reverse transfer.
